The Social Spark™️by Social Skills in a Box
A screen-free, connection-building game designed for upper elementary, middle school, and high school players.
The Social Spark™️was created by Jaime, a social-emotional learning specialist with over 20 years of clinical experience, this game helps young people practice communication, perspective-taking, and relationship-building — all through fun, engaging play.
Each Game Includes:
• Spark Questions to warm up and introduce players
• Activity & Interest Cards divided for different age groups that helps players discover shared likes
• The Connection Envelope for anonymous card submissions
• The Spark Board for simple point tracking
• A Swap Token for strategic play
• Bonus Connection Points to reward listening and remembering
How it works:
Players start by answering three fun Spark Questions to break the ice. Each round, one player becomes The Spark — the spotlight player everyone is trying to match. Players secretly choose one card they think The Spark will like most and place it in The Connection Envelope. The Spark reveals and ranks the cards from most liked to least liked, explaining their choices and sparking meaningful conversation. Points are awarded based on ranking, with opportunities to earn extra points by recalling new things learned about others.
Simple to play and endlessly repeatable, The Social Spark™️helps players unplug, open up, and connect — one round at a time.
How it helps to teach social emotional learning?
The game helps us to practice what to share with others when we first meet them or if we are seeing someone for the 100th time!
The game teaches us to understand how we store information about people in our brains and we can use this to connect with them later. These “files” in our brain can be opened anytime we see someone again
The game gives us practice with social pragmatic language or the language we use in social situations.
Lastly, the game can also help us understand that what we like can change when we get older and that what other people like can vary with age.
